National Wildlife Rehabilitation Conference

This conference has become the premier event for anyone with an interest in wildlife rehabilitation in Australia. The next conference will be held in Adelaide from June 22 to 24. The call is now out for presenters - for more details go to the official conference website www.nwrc.com.au.

Volunteers Needed !

The Spectacled Flying Fox is listed federally as a threatened species. Due to habitat changes in the Atherton Tablelands (Queensland) they are now being effected by the paralysis tick. This year hundreds of bats have been brought into care for treatment at the Tolga Bat Hospital near Atherton. Hundreds more were either dead when found, or euthanized as their condition was beyond help. Volunteers are stretched and every pair of hands makes a significant difference. Please help!  See www.tolgabathospital.org for information and contact details.

Grey-Headed Flying Fox
Even though grey-headed flying foxes are faced with extinction, the NSW Government continues to issue permits to shoot them. NSW is the only state where this practise is still legal. Many of those killed are females who are often left wounded to die a slow and painful death. They leave behind orphaned young, who then die from hunger and thirst. See www.thegreycross.org

Rescued!Rescued - A new book of wildlife rescue stories - out late 2008
Australian Fauna Care is proud to be associated with Rescued! - which was released in late Dec 2008. Compiled by Jodie Blackney, this wonderful book contains stories of wildlife rescues, written by carers and vets from around Australia. It can be ordered through this site for only $19.95 plus postage. Profits from the sale of this book will go directly to wildlife rehab organisations. Better still, wildlife organisations can buy this book direct at a substantial discount, to raise funds for your own group.  more...!
