Comments: WIRES Dubbo Branch covers an area encompassing Wilcannia to the west, up to Bourke and the Queensland border, across and down to Coonabarabran and Dunedoo in the east, then south to Mumbil and across to Parkes in the south - an area larger than the State of Victoria! Our branch currently has around 80 members and whilst most of them are based in Dubbo, we still have good representation in smaller towns and outlying areas in our region. A lot of our members are also more than willing to travel long distances to conduct rescues or to deliver injured native wildlife into veterinary care.
Our Branch is also extremely lucky to have ready access to the Taronga Western Plains Zoo Wildlife Hospital who work closely with our Members to rehabilitate as many native animals as possible for release back to the wild. This is one of 27 WIRES branches involved in the rescue and care of wildlife. WIRES assist tens of thousands of animals every year, receiving over 69,000 requests for rescue assistance annually.
